A & P Chp. 4 Flashcards
Epithelial tissue
The sheets of cells that cover line and protect other tissue; may act as a filter, many absorb, secrete, or excrete, plays a role in sensory input
ex. Skin
4 classifications of tissue
Epithelial
Muscle
Connective
Nervous
Endocrine
Without ducts, they produce hormones and secrete hormones they release products in packages made by the cells
Exocrine
Having ducts, discharge through ducts in localized areas
Connective tissue
Forms metabolic and structural connections between other tissues; forms a protective sheath around organs and helps insulate the body; acts as a reserve for energy; provides the frame work for the body; composes the medium that transports substances from one region of the body to another; plays a role in the healing process and in the control of invading microorganisms
Ex. Blood
Dense regular connective tissue are
Ligaments and tendons
Elastic connective tissue is
Veins and arteries
Specialized connective tissue is
Blood and bone
Bone is made of
Osteoblasts
Parietal layer
On the body wall
Visceral layer
Covers the outer portion of the organs
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue
Skeletal muscle tissue is made for locomotion
Smooth muscle tissue is made for the GI tract for food and the bladder
Cardiac muscle tissue pumps the blood ( heart)
Nervous tissue
Brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves; made of neurons and supporting neurological cells
First intention healing
Skin edges form a primary union 10 to 14 days to heal
What is the process of inflammation
Inflammation- initial response to limit further damage
1vasodilation
2 swelling
3 clot formation
4 phagocytosis
5 capillaries return to normal size blood flow and leakage abide
