A Future Kingdom Flashcards
What did E.P Sanders suggest ?
That Jesus was actually talking about a kingdom that would be established in the future
- possibly after a day of judgement
An example that the gospel (Luke) is ambiguous
- Jesus says ‘the kingdom of God is near’
But later speak of the need for him to die before the kingdom is established - ‘but first he must suffer many things and he rejected by this generation’
What does Luke mention?
The further coming of the kingdom, linked to the judgement of God
- ‘.. some of you here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God’
What are there references of in the Parable of the Ten Minas
References to a future kingdom, when the ruler will return to judge his people
Does the Parable of the Sower reference the same thing?
Yes
What does the Parable of the Sower deal with?
Reasons why not everyone who hears the message of the kingdom of God will subsequently act on it
What did Leon Morris observe ?
Parables both reveal and conceal the truth: they reveal it to the genuine seeker who will take the trouble to dig beneath the surface and discover the meaning, but they conceal it from him who is content simply to listen to the story (1995)
What does the seed represent in the Parable of the Sower
- represents the word of Hod and can only grow where the believer has a faithful and responsive heart
