This lead to a confrontation at Northampton Castle and Thomas went in exile to France for 7 years. A month after his return he was murdered by four knights spurred to action by the King exclaiming “Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?”. Miracles started happening after this. King Henry II made a pilgrimage to the tumb to ask for forgiveness for any role he may have played in Becket’s murder.
