Scrooge only associates family with money difficulties. He wonders how Cratchit can feel merry when he has a family to support.

We learn Scrooge has a lack of family in his childhood at first which could link to his isolation. The simile comparing family home to heaven shows Dickens believed family was linked to religion and being a good Christian.

Scrooge clearly has a strong bond with his sister. We learn that she dies which must have affected Scrooge.
“I mean to give him the same chance every year, whether he likes it or not, for I pity him”
Fred is shown to be a good family member in that he will not give up on Scrooge, despite how horrible he is.
