A. Airplane, General Equipment, and Doors Flashcards
What is the length and wingspan of the aircraft (-800 model)?
The B737-800 is 129” 6” long and has a 117” 5” wingspan (to the tips of the winglets).
Describe the external lighting that is available for viewing the runway during takeoff and landing.
There are two (left/right) retractable landing lights that extend from the belly of the aircraft. To avoid an odd light effect, the lgight housing can be extended via a switch position in the cockpit prior to illuminating the light. There are also two (left/right) fixed landing lights located in the wing leading edge near the fuselage. In addition, two runway turnoff lights assist in exiting a runway at night. The taxi light is fixed to the nose gear and moves along with the tires when the rudder pedals are moved or the steering tiller is utilized.
What other external lights are available?
Position lights: Steady read (left) and green (right) wing-tip lights. Steady white lights face backwards on the wing tips.
Strobe lights: Bright, flashing white lights on the wing tips and tail.
Anti-collision: Flashing read beacons on the upper and lower fuselage.
Wheel well: White lights used to illuminate the main and nose landing gear wells for inspection.
Logo: Steady white lights that illuminate the tail. (Lights are on the sides of the vertical stabilizer.
What are emergency lights?
When do they illuminate?
Emergency lights are a series of internal and external lights designed to guide occupants fromt he aircraft during an evacuation. They are independent of aircraft electrical power (they have their own battery power) and will illuminate with the failure of either DC bus 1 or AC power. Some aircraft are equipped with photoluminescent strips on their internal floors that glow in the dark and are used in lieu of actual lights.
What are the different entry and exit doors on the B737?
If facing forward, the left front door is termed the forward entry door (IL). This is normally used for boarding at the gate. The front right door is the forward service door (1R). There are four overwing exit doors (two on each side) The aft left door is termed the aft entry door (2L) The aft right door is the after service door (2R). Earlier 737 models have only two overwing emergency exits.
Describe the potable water system.
