A 9 CNS Pathways Flashcards
Which two major motor pathways are responsible for voluntary movements?
- Corticospinal (body)
- Corticobulbar (head)
What CNS lesions are abbreviated in TINNTING?
Trauma, Ischemia, Neoplasm, Neuro-degenerative diseases, Toxins, Infection, Nutritional deficiencies, Genetic.
Which two motor systems fine-tune voluntary motions?
- Cerebellum
- Basal ganglia
What pathways are responsible for pain, temp and crude touch to body and face?
- Spinothalamic (anterolateral)
- Trigeminothalamic
What two systems are responsible for conscious proprioception and discriminative touch?
- Dorsal Column Medial Lemniscus (DCML) (body)
- Trigeminothalamic (face, same as pain/temp/crude touch)
What are the pathways that sense nonconscious proprioception?
- Dorsal spinocerebellar/ cuneocerebellar
- Ventral spinocerebellar
What is the full path of the corticospinal tract?
Starts in cortex, parietal, temporal, frontal lobes.
Passes through internal capsule of diencephalon
Passes through cerebral peduncle of midbrain
Passes through pons, medulla.
In medulla, splits into lateral 90% & anterior corticospinal tracts.
What is the full path of the spinothalamic tract?
1: DRG neuron synapses in ipsi dorsal horn ( recall leseaures tracts)
2: Immediately crosses ventral white commissure THEN ascends anterolateral (spinothalamic) tract to synapse on thalamus
3: thalamus to sensory cortex
