99 Remote Sensing Flashcards
1
Q
Remote Sensing definition
A
Science of acquiring information about earth’s surface without making contact with it
2
Q
How remote sensing work
A
Recording reflected energy
3
Q
Two ways to categorized RS Sensors:
- Measuring signal : A and B
- Measuring radiation : C and D
A
A = active - emitting signal to the earth and measure the reflected signal) B = passive
C = non imaging - measuring radiation from all points and integrating it into one point D = imaging
4
Q
Remote sensing sensors’ platforms
A
Airborne, ground based, spaceborne
5
Q
Thermal sensor and Optical sensor
A
Thermal sensor : based on the infrared portion of the spectrum and measure emitted thermal energy - passive sensor
Optical sensor : passively collect visible, near infrared, and short-wave infrared
6
Q
Optical sensor classification
A
Panchromatic 1
Multi-spectral <10
Hyper-spectral >100
7
Q
Application of optical sensor
A
- Hyper-spectral sensor for AGRICULTURE - to characterize a wide range of chemical and biological traits to prevent pre or post harvest losses.
- Nighttime Lights - collects the visible to near infrared as many as human-made light resources provide
