9.6 Flashcards
lesson 9.6
Both mitosis and meiosis are..
mechanisms
Similaraties between miosis and mitosis
Both divide eukaryotic cell materials
Both cells copy it’s DNA during the interphase stage
Both spindle fiber arranges the movement of chromosome
Differences between miosis and mitosis
Mitosis:
occurs in somatic cells, throughout the life
cytokinesis occurs once so there are 2 daughter cells
identical cells, growth and repair, asexual reproduction
the # of chromosomes in the daughter cells is the same as in the parent
Meiosis:
Occurs in germ cells
Cytokinesis occurs twice so there are 4 daughter cells
diploid cells divide by mitosis producing haploid cells
genetically different cells, sexual reproduction produces gamets
Number of division in mitosis and meiosis
Mitosis: 1
Meiosis: 2
Number of daughter cells in mitosis and meiosis
Mitosis: 2
Meiosis: 4
Genetically identical?
Mitosis: yes
Meiosis: no
Chromosome #
Mitosis: same as parent
Meosis: half from each parent
Where?
Mitosis: somatic cells
Meosis: germ cells
When?
Mitosis: throughout life
Meiosis: at sexual maturity
Role
Mitosis Growth and repair, asexual
Meiosis: sexual reproduction
