9.5 Flashcards
what is the si unit of electric current
ampere
what is the magnitude of electric current measured in
coulombs per second
what is ampere in terms of coulombs
Ampere is defined as one coulomb of charge moving past a point in one second.
what are small currents measured in
milliamps(mA)
how much is 1 milliamps compared to 1 ampere
1 ma = 0.001 A
what do u messure current with
ammeter
what is a convection current flow
The conventional current flow is from positive to the negative terminal and indicates the direction that positive charges would flow.
what is an electron flow
The electron flow is from negative to positive terminal. Electrons are negatively charged and are therefore attracted to the positive terminal as unlike charges attract.
what is current
current is the rate at which electrons flow past a point in an electric circuit
what is a series current
in a series current there is only one path for the current to take
what are the advantages and disadvantages of series current
advantages-simple to design and build
disadvantages-if one light goes out all of them go out and as u add more lights the lights get dimmer
2 elements of series current in a series
-connected at a single point(node)
-no other current carrying out at this node
the same current flows through series connected current
what are the two types of ammeters
1- one type shows current using a needle
2- the other shows current on digital scale
