Current affairs topic giving background and where you would like to see it develop

A

Cyberattacks have caught my eye in the last 12 months

From the solarwinds attacks last November through to the more recent attacks on colonial pipelines and xxxx food it highlights that we are still all vulnerable to attacks

Named as one of the 5 operational domains it is considered a national security priority

Whether they are cyber criminals or deniable state sponsored proxies it highlights we must continue to develop and adapt our defences

The national cyber force has been charged to protect this highly contested domain and this has been acknowledged in the integrated review and has also been reaffirmed during the most recent NATO summit (Articles 5, although still vague) and the Biden/Putin meeting.

I can see cyber become an increasing challenge which will require with further investment beyond the £6.6 billion recently allocated.

This will help keep the UK as a leading nation in cyber defence
But we won’t be able to combat this alone, so closer working with industry and our allies will be the way ahead.

Cyber threats are here to stay and will get more complex as part of multi domain attacks in the future
