Q
How is blood glucose taken into the correct tissues?
A
Muscles have hexokinase I (high glucose affinity). It is also highly sensitive to G6P inhibition. Therefore, at low concentrations of glucose), the glucose would go to the muscle and converted into glucose 6 phosphate there.
The liver has hexokinase IV, which has low glucose affinity and is less sensitive to G6P inhibition. It would only catalyse the reaction in the liver to store glucose at high concentrations of glucose.
G6Pase in the liver also catalyses the reaction to convert G6P to glucose. This is transported to muscle when blood glucose is low
