9. CAR 2 Flashcards
follow-up
When performance is measured and reported, it always improves. This is why
businesses and other successful organizations always require reports.
mentoring
Support and guidance from a loyal advocate can have a powerful effect on our motivation and psyche. That is why even the best athletes hire personal trainers.
prove
PROVE your mastery of the CAR 1 Lesson by having your tutor ask you questions from that chapter.
teach
TEACH your tutor-mentor about each of the 20 CAR Blueprints. Show your tutor-mentor the example question you authored for each blueprint.
demonstrate
DEMONSTRATE the Matrix Method (LIVE) for your tutor using one of the passages from the CAR Workbooks.
show
your tutor all forty (40) of the matrices you completed using the Matrix Method.
show
SHOW your tutor-mentor your MCAT Journal and highlight the notes you took on each passage attempted during Group Session or on practice tests. You should have been tracking each occurrence of each CAR blueprint, noting what you learned, and setting improvement goals. You also committed to attend 100% of the Group Session so that you wouldn’t miss out on valuable CAR practice. Did you have a 100% attendance record?
report
REPORT the average number of speed drills you have completed each week since the CAR 2 Tutoring Session. This number should be at least five (5). You were not focusing on speed during LEVEL ONE, but talk to your mentor about your current speed drill time and any concerns you may have.
mentoring together
1) TOGETHER with your tutor-mentor, attempt and analyze at least one CAR passage that was difficult for you during Group Session. Alternate reading—you read the first half of the passage out loud and let your tutor-mentor read the second half. When you attempt the questions, take turns working individual questions out loud.
REMEMBER: Your tutor earned an incredible CAR score or else he or she wouldn’t be working for Altius. They did this, and you can to. They are there to help you and they want to help in any way they can. Together, the two of you can figure this out.
2) TOGETHER with your tutor, do one Speed Drill and one Comprehension Drill.
Focus and hallmarks
Let’s begin by considering the hallmarks of a student with LEVEL TWO skills. You most likely do NOT have these now, but you will develop them over the next six to seven weeks—between now and your CAR 3 Tutoring Session.
summarization and categorization
Begin at the CAR 2 Lesson, Finish before the CAR 3 Lesson.
