8M Module 5 & 6 Vocab Flashcards
A relation in which each member of the input is paired with exactly one member of the output.
Function
A table organizing the input, rule, and output of a function.
Function Table
The set of x-coordinates in a relation.
Input
A function in which the graph of the solutions forms a line.
Linear Function
A function whose rate of change is not constant. The graph of a nonlinear function is not a straight line.
Nonlinear Function
The set of y-coordinates in a relation.
Output
A graph used to represent situations that do not necessarily have numeric values.
Qualitative Graphs
Any set of ordered pairs.
Relation
Test used to see whether a graph is a function. If, for each value of x, a vertical line passes through no more than one point on the graph, then the graph represents a function. If the line passes through more than one point on the graph, it is not a function.
Vertical Line Test
An algaebraic method that can be used to find the exact solution of a system of equations by eliminating one of the variables.
Elimination
An algaebraic method that can be used to find the exact solution of a system of equations.
Substitution
A value that makes an equation true.
Solution (of an equation)
A set of two or more equations with the same variables.
System of Equations
An ordered pair that is a solution of both equations.
Solution (of a system of equations)
