8M Module 4 Vocabulary Flashcards
The y-coordinate of the point where the line crosses the y-axis.
Y-intercept
Rate in which the first quantity is compared to 1 unit of the second quantity.
Unit rate
Value that makes an equation true.
Solution
Right triangles that fall on the same line on the coordinate plane.
Slope triangles
An equation written as y=mx+b, where ‘m’ equals the slope and ‘b’ represents the y-intercept.
Slope-intercept form
Rate of change berween any two points on a line. It is the ratio of rise to run.
Slope
Figures with the same shape but not necessarily the same size.
Similiar figures
Horizontal change between any two points on a line.
Run
Vertical change between any two points on a line.
Rise
Rate that describes how one quantity changes in relation to another quantity.
Rate of change
A relationship that has a linear equation (and thus a straight line on the graph).
Linear relationship
An equation on a graph with a straight line.
Linear equation
Starting value in a real-world situation in which an equationm can be written. It is also the “y-intercept” in a linear function.
Initial value
When a relationship between two variable quantities has a constant ratio. It also has a proportional linear relationship.
Direct variation
Parts of congruent or similar figures that are int he same position.
Corresponding parts
When the rate of change between any two points in a linear relationship is the same or constant.
Constant rate of change
A constant ratio in a direct variation.
Constant of variation
The constant ratio in a proportional relationship.
Constant of proportionality
Relation in which each member of the input is paired with exactly one member of the output.
Function
