8B Flashcards
Theory of Evolution
Evolution means gradual change to improve or become more complex. Supposedly formed and changed universe. By chance. Theory.
Biological Evolution
Change of one organism into another in many generations. Increase in complexity which is not happening today or in the past. We have degeneration.
Jean Baptiste Lamarck
Proposed the theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics.
Theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics
Used giraffes to illustrate this theory. Believed giraffes were short but over time of stretching became longer. Shrews also were believed to be part of this theory.
Naturalists
Observes nature in which Darwin becomes one. Went to medical school and quit in 1831 for naturalism. Wanted to see changes in animals.
Beagle
Ship Darwin took to see animals. Went around coast of South Africa. Traveled for 5 years.
Galapagos Island
Animals were different on different islands. Especially finches.
Degeneration
Growth but not evolution, all things degenerate over time. Evolution contradicts the Bible. Nothing proves evolution.
Theory of natural selection
- If young are produced some live and some die.
- Compete for things necessary to survive.
3.Survival of the fittest causes competition
4.If survived, with pass those traits on to young.
5.Only organisms with survival traits can reproduce.
Decent with Modification
Selective breeding, man chooses wanted traits. Only allows those ones to breed. Newer organisms are modified descents. Started 10 million years ago.
Mutation Theory of evolution
Made by Hugo De Vires, mutations can produce genetic changes for biological evolution, genes must be created. Only contributes to biological evolution.
Loss of gain and function
Loss does happen (albinism), scientists do not have credible examples for gain.
Mutation- selection theory
Problem is that to make a major change, it would take countless favorable mutations. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN.
