Invertebrate
Animals without backbone. Starfish, sponges, jellyfish, or earthworm. Skeleton instead of backbone. Hundreds of shapes and sizes.
Vertebrate
Animals with backbone.
Sponge
Is an animal whose existence is dependent on pores that pump water through the body. Bring food, oxygen, and removes waste.
Porifera
Means Pore Bearer. Made up of pores like a sponge.
Sessile
Unable to move from place to place.
Spongin
Skeleton of sponge. Flexible fibrous protein.
Spicules
Stiff little spikes. Sponges are used for bathing, cleaning, and painting.
Collar Cells
In sponges central cavity. In them the flagellum can move causing water and food to flow in. Water exits the top.
Fiber Eaters
Another name for sponges.
Jellyfish tentacles
Jelly fish are phylum cnidarian with tentacles with stinging cells.
Radial symmetry
Jelly fish can be divided into two equal halves on any plane of it.
Medusa
Umbrella shaped body of a jellyfish.
Polyp
Body form for a jellyfish.
Hydrostatic skeleton
This is jellyfish’s type of body support. Like a balloon with air against the walls. Instead of air jellyfish have jelly.
