8.5 Pressure changes and airflow during breathing Flashcards
1
Q
What are the pros and cons of bell spirometry
A
PROS: direct volume measurement, very precise when well adjusted, allow measurements of oxygen uptake
CONS: poor dynamic response and expensive
2
Q
Pros and Cons of pneumotachographs
A
PRO: excellent dynamic response and cheap
CONS: fiddly as small pressure changes can cause drifts, need repeated calibrations, need a computer
3
Q
How is RV and TLC measured?
A
Body plethysmograph or Hilium dilution
4
Q
Why does translung pressure lag behind intrapleural pressure?
A
Airway resistance and total compliance
5
Q
What determines intrapleural pressure?
A
Alveolar pressure determining flow and translung pressure determining volume
