When a writer persuades his readers, so the majority could agree with the argument of the writer, suggesting that since majority agrees, the readers should too

This technique is used to dupe us into believing there is only one way to look at an issue

When an idea is made to appear holy, sacred, or very special to make the opposite points of view have the appearance of treason or blasphemy

Develops a comparison which is exceedingly unlikely but is, nonetheless, intellectually imaginative
Claim
An argument that supports the author’s position
Catharsis
Emotional discharge through which one can achieve a state of moral or spiritual renewal or liberation from anxiety and stress
cliche
An overused saying that has lost its original meaning because of its overuse
Concession
Similar to a counterargument but is more like an extension of one that attempts to find some “common ground”
