TFD radios have the following direct channels:
a. DIR 01 (A15, B15, C15)
b. DIR 02 (B14, C14)
c. ST OP1 (Airlift NW A14)
d. TA PF (C11)
e. ST OP 1-5 (H1 thru H5)
DIR 01 (A15, B15, C15) shall be used exclusively for:
fire operations or in conjunction with fire operations training activities.
If a direct channel must be used, the Incident Commander shall monitor or assign personnel to monitor DIR 01 (A15) as soon as possible after incident command is established.

- Notify your partner of the radio coverage problem, relocate position and try the transmission again.
- If still unable to transmit, notify your partner and both of you relocate to an area that will allow portable radio communications. 3. Make a notation of the location and conditions encountered.
- Report this information to the FCC Shift Supervisor upon return to station.
- E-mail the radio user‚s report to the City‚s Radio Service Center at 800fire@cityoftacoma.org.
- Forward a copy of the radio user‚s report to the FCC Manager.

Incident Commander
Rapid Intervention Crew
- Attempt to relocate your position if possible and try the transmission again.
- If still unable to transmit, select DIR 01 (A15) and send the message.
- Notify the Incident Commander of the problem.
- Assign a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) as indicated and in accordance with TFD Policy 2022.
- Monitor DIR 01 (A15) for the duration of the RIC assignment.
- Acknowledge all transmissions received on DIR 01 (A15).
- Immediately notify the Incident Commander of all information received.
PROCEDURE FOR ADDRESSING A RADIO COVERAGE PROBLEM WHEN LOST OR TRAPPED
TFD personnel
- Attempt to relocate your position if possible and try the transmission again.
- If still unable to transmit, notify your partner and relocate to an area that will allow portable radio communication.
- If still unable to re-establish contact, turn to DIR 01 (A15) and request emergency traffic.
- If transmission is not acknowledged, transmit anyway.
- Notify the Incident Commander of the problem.
