What is a Conjunction?
words that join words or groups of words
What is a Preposition?
words that show relationship between a noun or a pronoun

words used to convey emotion through some kind of exclaimation
What is a proper noun?
Nouns that name SPECIFIC people, places, things, or ideas
ex. Maya, Paris, Rover
What is a common noun?
Nouns that name GENERIC people, places, things, or ideas.
ex. woman, city, dog
What is a collective noun?
Nouns that refer to GROUPS of people, animals, or things
ex. Audience, band, class, club, crowd, herd, team
What is a possessive noun?
Nouns that show ownership
ex. Mom’s keys

Clauses that can stand alone as a complete thought

Clauses that cant stand alone as a complete thought
ex. “When I made dinner”
What is a subordinating conjunction?
Words that join certain kinds of dependent clauses
ex. Although, whenever, if, though, even if, because, unless, since
What is a coordinating conjunction?
Words that join together sentence elements that are the same
ex. (fanboys)

What are correlative conjunctions?
Conjunctions that are used in pairs
ex. either/or , neither/nor , both/and
What is a temporal clause?
Subordinate clauses that express the reference time with respect to which the main clause must be interpreted
What is a conditional clause?
Consist of a main clause and a conditional clause (sometimes called an if-clause)
What is a comparative clause?
A type of subordinate clause that follows the comparative form of an adjective or adverb and begins with as, than, or like.
