Why should Aluminium be used for the car body over steel?
A
lower density than steel which allows it to have a better fuel economy
does not corrode whereas steel rusts unless it is protected by paint
longer lifetime
HOWEVER
more expensive than steel

What do the European Union Directive require car manufacturers to do?
A
- improve their designs to make cars easier to recycle
- avoid certain toxic materials
- aim for 95% of the cars weight to be recyclable
- also allow owners to have cars scrapped at no cost
