8 Fitness Components Flashcards
1 RM (1 repetition maximum)
Is the maximum amount of force that can be generated in one maximal contraction. This is commonly used to measure strength.
Aerobic power
Is the maximum rate of energy production from the aerobic energy system (i.e. energy produced in the presence of oxygen).
Agility
Is a combination of flexibility and speed, which allows the performer to change direction with maximal speed and control.
Anaerobic capacity
Is the total amount of energy obtainable from the anaerobic energy systems (the combined capacity of the ATP-PC system and anaerobic glycolysis system).
Balance
Is the ability of the body to remain in a state of equilibrium while performing a desired task.
Body composition
Refers to the relative proportions of bone, muscle, and fat within the body.
Coordination
Is the ability to used different parts of the body together smoothly and efficiently.
Flexibility
Is the range of movement around a joint.
Muscular endurance
Is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time.
Muscular power
Is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to exert a maximum amount of force in the shortest period of time.
Reaction time
Is the time between a stimulus and the first response.
Speed
Is the rate of motion (distance/ time).
Strength
Is the peak force that a muscle can develop.
