8-11 Flashcards
Eutectic point
A temperature at which a particular eutectic mixture freezes or melts
Lamellar structures or micro-structures
Composed of fine, alternating layers of different materials in form of lamellae
Hypoeutectic
Any point on the left of a eutectic point
Hypereutectic
any point on the right side of a eutectic point
Eutectic composition
A straight line parallel to the y axis on the eutectic point
Liquidus Line
A line that represent where the temperature of the composition will become a liquid.
Solidus line
A line that represents the solid phase from a solid liquid phase region
Solvus
A line on a phase diagram that seprates a solid from a solid1+solid2
what is the difference between a eutectic and eutectoid point?
Eutectic goes for a liquid to A+B (solid)
eutectiod goes from C(solid to A+B (solid)
What is a eutectic point?
- A composition that was composed from a liquid into two solids
- LS1+S2
- Liquid in equilibrium with two solids
what is a eutectoid point?
- Composition that comes from a solid into two solids.
- S2S1+S3
- Three solid phases in equilibrium
what is a peritectic point?
-Composed from a solid
and a liquid cooling into two a solid.
-S1 or S2 +L=S2 or S1
-Liquid in equilibrium with two solid
What is a peritectoid point?
- Two solid colling into one solid.
- S1+S3S2
- Three solid phases in equilibrium
Difference between periect and eutect?
As you heat eutect composition, the composition is one phase/composition.
As you cool pertect composition, the phase/composition is one phase/composition.
What is an invariant point?
A point in a binary system in which 4 phases are in equilibrium.
