What is the difference between indirect and direct characterization in a novel?
Direct characterization happens when the author explicitly tells the reader what he or she wants us to learn about the character, whereas indirect characterization occurs when the author shows the reader parts of the character that helps them understand the character’s personality and the effect they have on other characters
How is the theme in a novel developed?
By using symbols, settings, dialogue, and actions
How can you infer from textual evidence?
To successfully make inferences, you must first look at the relevant information and list those specific textual details
How can you describe the conflict in a novel?
Conflict is something thwarted, endangered, or not desired
How can a text structure contribute to setting/theme/plot development?
It guides readers in making predictions about the story’s direction and assist in understanding thematic elements
How does a novel’s plot affect theme development?
The plot and characters are the elements that bring the theme to life
