7r Unit 1: Force Flashcards
What happens to a ball that is bouncing?
The gravity pulls the ball down, and as it lands, it squashes.
When you are standing, what forces are acting on you?
The gravity from earth pulling you down, and the gravity from you, pulling the earth up.
What do you measure force in?
Newtons
Name the force that helps you float
Upthrust
Name Hookes law
If the extension doubles, then you have doubled the force. This is shown in linear graphs
How do you calculate your weight?
Mass (the reading on weighing scales) x 10 (gravitational pull on earth).
Is the force balanced on a cyclist slowing down?
No
Is the force balanced on a boat speeding up
No
Is the force balanced on a boy floating in water
Yes, the upthrust is the same
