7J - Electrical cicuits Flashcards
What do you use to measure a current in a circuit?
CURRENT is measured using a AMMETRE
What is a current?
A CURRENT is a STREAM OF CHARGED PARTICLES/ELECTRONS.
How do we measure voltage?
We measure VOLTAGE with a VOLTMETRE
what does voltage do?
VOLTAGE gives the ‘PUSH’ and ENERGY in a circuit
What is resistance?
The RESISTANCE of a circuit is a way of saying how EASY OR DIFFICULT IT IS FOR ELECTRICITY TO FLOW.
How do we make a current smaller?
you would decrease the CURRENT by putting a RESISTER IN THE CIRCUIT
What is a series circuit?
A SERIES CIRCUIT is one loop; the current is the same everywhere and if one bulb breaks, none of them will work.
What is a parallel circuit?
a PARALLEL CIRCUIT is where it has more than one loop; if a bulb breaks, all others stay on; the current is smaller within each loop
What colour is the earth wire?
the EARTH WIRE is GREEN and YELLOW.
What colour is the live wire?
the LIVE WIRE is BROWN
what colour is the neutral wire?
the NEUTRAL WIRE is BLUE
What can electricity cause if careless with it?
- Fires
- Burns
- Shocks that can stop your heart or lungs working.
