Q

Difference between statue and monument

A

A monument, by definition, commemorates something - the word describes the purpose, rather than the form. It may be, or include, a statue; or it may just be a slab with an inscription. A statue is a three dimensional image of some kind. It may be commemorative - or it may just be decorative.
