Impacts and consequences may include:
Use of the internet for research – sources which are up to date and not available on printed media, plagiarism or sources, web sites doing coursework for you, use of messaging distracting you from work.
Use of presentation software by the teacher, “death by powerpoint” not creating own resources – no understanding of the resources that have been created. Administration systems – grade analysis and value added.

Q

14 Discuss the impact of ICT on air travel.

The quality of your written communication will be assessed in your answer to this question (11 marks June 09)

A

Impacts and consequences may include:
Efficient booking systems to place bookings for trains and cars to catch the airplane and beyond. No need for tickets, use of biometrics to ascertain if you have bought a ticket. More efficient engines leading to less pollution.
Security systems – biometric meaning less delays whilst passports checked, less chance of illegal immigrants or terrorist activities because of the better security.
In flight systems – videos/dvds telephone – less boredom factor so parents less stressed when they reach their destination and ready to enjoy their holiday – likely to fly further with young children. Increase in size of planes – better designs/modelling leading to larger planes – more facilities, better relaxation but increase in fares to compensate

Q

The committee want to use the hall as a cinema and entertainment centre.
Discuss the impact of ICT on cinema and entertainment systems that could be used in the hall. The quality of written communication will be assessed in your answer to this question.(11 marks June 11)

A

Areas of discussion may focus on use of sound systems, cinema systems, compatibility with different devices, noise levels, .seat integration, training and cost issues, security issues/vandalism. The point needs to be made for Band 1. For Band 2 the point needs to be expanded and additional information added – this can either be through the use of an explanation or consequence: the hall could be equipped with the latest cinema display equipment – this would give surround sound and 3D images which is going to increase the experience of the customers as it will be better than their televisions. For Band 3 the initial point needs to be explained in depth – advantage of disadvantage and a consequence of that point. For marks in Band 4 there is both a positive and a negative consequence – either of the same point or different points
