Message from DISPATCH about aircraft ahead, deviating near the fix PAINT. Advises deviation south has moderate turbulence.

A

Plan to Deviate north. Ask for deviations via CPDLC use route, offset to preview deviations, if request is denied, request again.

If denied again , state pan-pan, pan-pan, pan-pan and deviate around the weather. if less than five miles, stay at flight level. If more than 5 miles climb or descend, 300 feet based on turn. Turn to the north, descend. Turn to the south, climb.

Hold clearance afterwards

A

All three results in NO LAND 3.

Enter the hold at appropriate speed, declare an emergency and contact DISPATCH via call me or satcom. Discuss with DISPATCH and TOMC.

Weather in San Francisco is deteriorating.

A

If no auto land, can not land in San Francisco unless weather is better than 1800 RVR. If autoland is available, choose to do cat 3/land 2. 50’ DH.

Diversion options

A

Consider Oakland, San Jose, or Sacramento. Put airports in alternate page and consider fuel.

Oakland’s Landing ILS 30 glideslope out of service or Arnav 30 with gusty winds

Sacramento is gusty and landing ILS 34 L. It’s a little further but you have plenty of gas.

San Jose is closed due to a disabled aircraft on runway

Decide on airport to go to. Probably Sacramento.

A

Request landing data and fuel burn from DISPATCH. Review diversion guide, and QRG brief the flight attendants TEST and brief the passengers.

Load Sacramento into alternate page and consider that you were ready to divert.

Load the approach and be sure to set up 250 speed and 10,000 at 30 miles.
