757 Fire Det/Prot Flashcards
What happens when a single fault is detected during a fire detection test?
The system configures the affected engine for a single loop operation
How is a loop fault indicated?
By an EICAS message
How many fire detectors in each cargo department?
There are two smoke detectors in each
What happens when the the Engine Fire handle is pulled?
- The engine spar valve closes
- Thrust reverser is deactivated
- The engine driven hydraulic pump is depressurized and the supply valve is closed
- The generator field is opened, which opens the breaker
- Ignition is de-energized
- The engine bleed valve is closed
A fire is indicated in the left engine. You pull the left fire handle, but it won’t move. What should you do?
Push the fire override switch and pull the handle
What happens when you rotate the fire handle?
The selected fire extinguisher bottle is discharged
What happens when the APU fire handle is pulled?
The APU immediately will shut down
During takeoff, immediately after rotation, there is an engine fire. However, there is no fire bell. What is the problem?
There is no problem. During takeoff the fire bell and warning light is inhibited from nose gear extension to 400’ or 20 seconds
What does pushing the forward cargo compartment extinguisher arming switch do?
- Arms the fir extinguisher squibs for the selected compartment
- Silences the fire bell
- Shuts off the right recirc fan and the right pack goes to high flow
- The forward cargo heat fan shuts off
Common fire indications:
Fire bell
Master Warning Light
Discrete Fire Light
EICAS warning message
Engine fire indication:
Fuel control switch light
Fire switch light
Main cargo fire indication
Overhead panel fire lights
Wheel Well Fire indication
Wheel Well Fire Light
APU fire indications
APU panel fault light.
APU fire switch
Nose gear fire light with intermittent horn
How can the fire bell be silenced?
Pressing the aster Warning Light
Arming the fire switch
Overheat is a __________ not a ___________
Caution
Warning
Pulling the fire switch does what?
Arms the bottle
Silences the bell
Shuts off everything
Cargo Isolation switch attempts to:
Starve the fire
Cargo fire:
Arms the Forward and Aft bottles
Silences the bell
Forward also turns off left recirc fan
Where can the APU fire bottle be discharged from?
Cockpit
Nose gear
Engine/APU/ Overheat fire loops:
Automatically tested at power application
Continuously monitored
Normally requires agreement in order to send signal
Automatically configures for single loop operation if partner fails
Complete system failure of a given Fire Loop Detector pair:
EICAS message and SYS FAIL P-RESET light illuminates
Pressing light resets system to enable alert in the event of additional failures.
Cargo Smoke Detectors:
Auto tests at power power application and power transfer
Requires agreement in order to send signal
Not continuously monitored
Does not auto reconfigure if partner fails
Requires fire overheat test in order to reconfigure for single detector operation
Which bottle is used first on a cargo fire?
Use bottle 1 first
Use bottle 2 on approach or 50 minute after discharging bottle 1
