How would you react to a Capt who seems to be drunk?
Ask if I may speak to him privately and ask him if he is feeling sick. This will give him the chance to report himself not fit for duty.
Have you applied elsewhere? What if you received another job offer, which job will you take?
Yes, I think it is short sighted to put all my eggs in one basket but having said that, if I was ever in such a privileged situation as to receive another job offer, I would take RYR for sure. The reasons being: because of the international crew including many friends and colleagues I’ve met throughout my training, RYR has multiple bases incl. those in Scotland, you fly the 737-800 which I love and have experience in and you offer a a salary which meets standard of living with opportunities to expand within the business too.
What is your greatest weakness?
Too much self criticsm exacerbated by my social and ethical culture’s view of roles for women. Of course I had to overcome all those things to be sitting here today, but there are those times where I am tired and I start to slide. I am not more conscious of those times and feelings and make sure I handle it professionally. It’s a fancy way of saying I stop myself from spiralling and becoming counter productive in my thoughts.
What is something you don’t like about your current company?
In my previous company it would take a lot of persuading to get things changed, for the better. It was a long and arduous process but I got a few things changed incl. processes to make my job a lot more efficient.
Why did you become a pilot?
When I entered the flight training program I would answer this Q with, because I like flying and the idea that it uses both my cognitive and physical skills. Now that I’ve been through training I would answer, because I LOVE flying, the aviation community and the fact that this job pushes me so far out my comfort zone that I love the new skills and knowledge that I acquire everyday. And also because being a commercial pilot is cool.
What do you know about our bases/hubs?
Founded in 1984, HQ in Swords, Dublin with primary operational bases in Dublin (2nd largest hub) and London Stanstead (largest hub). Bases throughout Europe.
Did you apply to other airlines?
Yes, it would be remiss of me to only apply for one airline, but RYR remains my priority choice due to international crew, bases, friends already within RYR, reputation, the RYR business strategy and the living standards wage that RYR offers.
What is your back-up plan when we won’t hire you?
This is a back up plan in general and not just if RYR doesn’t hire me, in that I will look to improve my skills and experience to make myself so qualified that you have no option to hire me in the future. This could be to get my aerobatics and or instructor rating, get into gliding to fully understand aerodynamics. Immerse myself in flying club(s) and even perhaps considering moving south to England so I am close to the aviation community. Living in Scotland there is very little in terms of opportunities. I will do what it takes to get to where I want to go because I have come this far, I will not give up.
Give me a summary of your flying career up to this point?
I have a fATPL from different schools. I first started out on the integrated program which didn’t work out and instead of walking away with regrets I continued on with 2 fantastic modular programs. Because of the journey I’ve ultimately had, I’ve had a lot of exposure to different environments, people and types of training aircrafts, which total 10. I have a lot of people to thank for my progress and along the way have made some long lasting friendships. As my culture instills, never forget where you came from. Meaning gratitude to all those who helped you along the way.
Would you mind working with younger captains?
No. Given I started flight training later in my life, many instructors were young than me. In fact I look forward to working with more as they teach me new things, especially about their generation and ideas!
When will you be available for us?
Now! I’m ready to go, any challenge you throw at me I’m ready.
What types and numbers of AC comprise the fleet? What types of engines?
737-7, 8 and MAX200.
Turbo fan engines CFM51
What type of wing does 737-8 have?
Swept
What angle of sweep does 737-8 have?
25 degrees. 27 degrees is inefficient
What is the incline of the dihedral?
6 degrees
What is the difference between the stabiliser on the 737-8 compared to the Duchess?
Duchess stabiliser has an elevator at the TE. This is moved mechanically by cable and aided by a trim tab (to alleviate px forces on the pilot). The 737-8 stabiliser is all moving hence more powerful and sensitive. It is moved via hydraulics and servos. Anti-servo tabs are used to add forces.
What is the optimum ISA cruise ALT for 737-8?
36,000ft
What is the pressurisation of cabin in the cruise?
8,000ft
What is the fuel cap of the 737-8?

HQ in Dublin Swords, and largest hub is Stanstead, London.
What is the min flight crew allowed for RYR flights?
2 flight and 4 cabin crew
How many seats does RYR flight have and what class of seat?
189 seats all economy. RYR believes 1st class wastes fuel consumption and capacity
Why don’t RYR use turbo props?
Lower range, jets are faster and public perception
What are the advan of operating one AC fleet? Why don’t we use mixed fleet?
Economics - supply and demand: as a large buyer RYR has purchasing power therefore can negotiate with Boeing on costs of new AC and after sales services.
Internally, its easier and cheaper to maintain because parts again are negotiated and everyone is trained to do the same thing, so HR across all departments can be less.
