Although he was appointed by nixon as apart of Southern strategy, he was one of the most liberal judges on the court and tutored the courts opnion on roe v wade
Blackmun was linked and characterised by this decision for the rest of his career

Why was there a strong reaction to roe. Wade

A

Theruking made abortion a federal issue, to overturn it wouldn’t require a constitutional ammendment.
The basis of the ruling was criticised for its ambiguity as it was not technically about abortion but about privacy. Privacy was never ever specifically stated in the constitution only implied.
It bought together a dangerous mix of moral, religious and political arguments which would divide political parties.
