What are are properties of giant covalent bonds?

A

They have very high melting points because all the strong covalent bonds have to be broken to change their state.
The bones are too strong to allow a giant covalent substance to dissolve.
Most covalent structures drink attract electricity because there are no ions or free electrons, graphite is the only exception

What are the properties of simple covalent substances?

A

Simple covalent substances have a lower melting point because when these are turned to liquid it’s not the covalent bonds are broken but is the forces between molecules. It’s the intermolecular forces that are broken. The intermolecular forces are much weaker than the covalent bonds therefore they need much less energy to break. For this reason many simple covalent substances are liquids or gases at room temperature.
Most covalent structures don’t conduct electricity
The week into molecular forces in simple covalent structures easily overcome than in giant covalent structure however many are still insoluble.
