7.2: Workshop practices Flashcards
What type of tools should personal tool kits not have?
Specialist tools that are subject to calibration or specifically designed for the task at hand
What are the majority of tools manufactured from and with?
Alloy steel, with corrosion resistant finishes
What should metal and wooden covered benches have their surfaces cleaned with?
An oiled rag for metal while a wooden bench requires a stiff brush
What should be put on a benchtop when drilling or punching and why?
Pieces of hardwood or steel block should be put to prevent pieces of swarf from becoming embedded in the bench surface
What should be done to clamping screws on drilling tables?
Slackened to allow lubrication of the threads
What storage does many sealants need?
Refrigeration
What needs to happen to mixed two pack sealant before disposal?
Cured completely
What is the nominal size of an item?
An approximate dimension used for general identification
What is the basic size?
The theoretical size from which the size limits are derived by applying allowances and tolerances
What is tolerance?
The total amount by which a given dimension is allowed to vary
If the basic size as well as tolerance is known, what can be measured?
The actual size
What is the fit?
Dimensional relationship between two parts
What should a calibration label show?
The date of the last test
When the next calibration is due
The authorised person’s signature/stamp
What is a torque analyser?
Used for calibration of torque wrenches and they must conform to current EC directives and safety standards
How are pressure gauges and transmitters calibrated?
By a hydraulic pumps which use either water or oil by pressure generators that use oil or gas
