7 Temperature Sensors Flashcards
Describe a thermocouple sensor
Uses Seebeck effect which converts heat to current
Can use different material to get desired values
Benefits:
Operate over a wide range
Inexpensive
Downsides:
Inaccuracies
Possible instability
Describe a semiconductor temperature sensor (Transistor)
Operated based on fundemental temperature and current characteristics of transistors
The voltage difference is measured between the collector and emitter and the temperature can be calculated
Semiconductor Temperature Sensor (Diode)
Operates by providing a stable excitation current and then measuring the forward voltage drop of the diode.
What are the benefits and downsides of semiconductor sensors
Advantages:
Can be integrated into PCB
The manufacturing process for semiconductors is well defined
Disadvantages:
Large temperature coefficient
Delicate
