SA80 Type of Ammunition 1
Ball - The has a smooth brass cartridge, a jacketed bullet with a percussion cap in the base.
SA80 Type of Ammunition 2
Tracer - Similar to Ball but the tip of the bullet is painted red.
SA80 Type of Ammunition 3
Armour Piercing - Similar to Ball but the tip of the bullet is painted black.
SA80 Type of Ammunition 4
Blank - This round has a brass case but no bullet. The top of the case is closed by crimping.
SA80 Type of Ammunition 5
Drill - Either a silver coloured grooved case, a copper jacketed bullet and no percussion cap or solid machined single piece round all silver in colour.
SA80 Ammunition sizes
All ammunition is rimless; its calibre is 5.56mm, this together with manufacturing information is stamped on the based of each cartridge.
SA80 Ammunition Issuing
Ammunition is normally issued in H83 or M2 containers, containing cardboard cartons of 20, 30 or 50 rounds. They are also issued in bandoliers of 150 rounds in 10 round clips. Magazine charges are issued one per Rifle / Carbine as part of the CES.
