Louis planned to spend Easter at their nearby Palace of Saint-Cloud but they were prevented from leaving the Tuileries Palace by a mob

What was the Flight to Varennes?
On the Night of June 20th 1791 Louis and his family attempted to escape but was recognised by a postmaster and was escorted back to Paris.

Sowed seeds of doubt for Louis’ sincerity- Afterwards Louis states his opposition to things he’d said he’d supported (such as the suspensory veto)
Louis was temporarily suspended until a new constitution was written
What was the demonstration at the Champ de Mars?
The Cordeliers club organised a meeting at the Champ de Mars on the 17th July 1791. 6000 attended, Lafayette was sent in with the National Guard and ended up firing on the crowds- killing 50.

Radical left were forced underground, their newspapers were closed by the new moderate Feuillant Club.
