Q

Latent Heat

A

Refers to the energy absorbed or released by a substance during a change in its physical state (phase) that occurs without changing its temperature. When a substances changes from solid to liquid, latent heat is absorbed (energy in) to weaken/bread the forces between the particles. When changing from a liquid to solid (freezing), latent heat is released (energy out), forming or strengthening forces between the particles.
