what was the objective of the battle?
the objective of britain and france was to launch a naval attack landing on the peninsula, with the aim of capturing the ottoman capital constantinople and weakening germany by an attack on the sick man of europe, and to build up trade routes with russia
why was it such an important battle for the ottoman empire?
it was one of the greatest ottoman victories in the war
what is the campaign often considered as?
it is considered as the birth of a national holiday in australia and new zealand known as ANZAC day
what did the anzacs establish at gallipoli?
a beachhead on the beach
what did the allies not expect?
the turkish army were much better trained and equipped than in recent times. they also had an extremely clever leader in kemal.
what did the british have to do in the end?
britain had to withdraw after sustaining huge losses and achieving nothing
