what was the battle of tannenberg notable for?
it was notable for fast rail movements by the germans, enabling them to concentrate on each of the two russian armies in turn
what was the battle’s result?
it resulted in a german win, but a complete destruction of the the russian second army, and the suicide of it’s commanding general alexander samsonov
what was the french war plan?
to attack as soon as their army was mobilized to drive the germans from alsace and lorraine. their russian allies would have a massive army, but their mobilization was slow. their railway network was behind west european standards, so getting their men to the front would be delayed
