7. Evaluating The Budget Flashcards
Benchmarking
Recording the expenditure in various areas of educational practice and then using this as a mean against which the performance of individual schools can be measured.
A school can see where it stands in relation to other schools of similar size and context
Auditing procedures
- what progress have we made towards our strategic objectives
- what factors have inhibited this progress
- what are the current favouring and inhibiting factors for future development
The answers will establish the gap between planned and actual resources use.
And can indicate area of future planning or modification/re-thinking
Data Envelopment Analysis
Is a way of determining how efficient the school is in its use of resources
Enables comparison between each school and the one that uses inputs in the same proportions but produces the most output per units of input.

Production function analysis
Attempts to relate the output of schools to the inputs it used.
Considers all the variables that might affect an outcome and then estimates the size of the effect of the individual factors and the combinations of factors that produces that outcome.
Value added concept
Most useful evaluation of the effectiveness of resource use
It attempts to see how far the resources used by the school have contributed to the progress of the individual when compared to their attainment level at entry.
The average for all schools provides benchmark
