Audience/Purpose
Who the writing is for and why?
What is the goal?
Invention
Where the bulk of the material/idea/purpose was collected (experiences, memories, books, stories, ect.)
Where does the writer get the material needed to convence people? Research, scientists, news, experiences, memories, ect.
Arrangement
Order of story (Chronological, Flashbacks, Time Jumps, Etc.)
How is the story ordered? (Spacially, chronological, importance)
Cohesion
Flow (Short and choppy or long and eloquent)
Inheritance flowed smoothly with long sentences.
Argument and Proof
What does the author do to prove to the audience their purpose?
Ethos
Tone and Stance
Style
Literary devices, Speech type (Colloquialism, Formal, Etc.), overstating and understating if it helps convey the main message, and diction (word choice)
How should the writing sound to best convey the author’s stance?
