What is a cause?

A

A factor that is associated with the disease so that if the intensity or prevalence of the factor in the population is changed, the incidence of disease also changes

What is the triad model?

A

The idea that there are three factors which play a part in the infection of a person:
1) The host
2) The infectious agent
3) The environment
Changes to any of these affects the likelyhood of developing an illness

What is a web of causality?

A

The idea that there is no single cause for a disease but multiple factors that interact with each other. It is hard to remove the causing factors and these factors may stimulate the occurence of new factors

A

Association is hoe the level of one variable differes according to the level of another.
They may be:
Causal - The level of one variable changes according to another
Non causal - Due to chance, bias or confounding
