Child Care in Florida
defined as the care, protection, and supervision of a child for a period of less than 24 hours a day on a regular basis, which implements parental care, enrichment, and health supervision for the child, in accordance with his or her individual needs and for which a payment, fee, or grant is made for care
Conditions
~ subject to regulation by the Department or local licensing agencies (unless specifically excluded or exempted)
~ prolonged child care allows care to be provided for 24 hours or longer for a child whose parent/guardian works a shift of 24 hours or more (ex. firefighter)
~ the child may not be in care for more than 72 consecutive hours in any 7-day period
~ the parent/guardian must provide a written certification from the employer to verify the shift work

A child care program may be designated an urban child care facility by submitting an application and demonstrating that they are in an area that has been officially declared urban.
The main types of child care programs in Florida are:
- Child Care Facilities
- Specialized Child Care Mildly III Facilities
- Family Day Care Homes
- Large Family Child Care Homes
