first degree burn with characteristics
only the epidermis is affected. These injuries are characterized by redness and pain; there are no blisters, and edema (swelling due to the accumulation of fluids) in the wounded tissue is minimal. A classic example of a first-degree burn is moderate sunburn.
second degree burn with characteristics
involve the epidermis and part of the lower layer of skin, the dermis. The burn site looks red, blistered, and may be swollen and painful
third degree burn with characteristics
or full-thickness, burns destroy the entire thickness of the skin. The surface of the wound is leathery and may be brown, tan, black, white, or red.
anaphylaxis
A severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
closed fracture
is a broken bone that does not penetrate the skin.
contusion
is the medical term for a bruise.
cramp
A painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle.
crepitus
a grating sound or sensation produced by friction between bone and cartilage or the fractured parts of a bone.
dislocation
disturbance from a proper, original, or usual place or state.
fracture
the cracking or breaking of a hard object or material.
open fracture
also called a compound fracture, is a fracture in which there is an open wound or break in the skin near the site of the broken bone.
sprain
wrench or twist the ligaments of (an ankle, wrist, or other joint) violently so as to cause pain and swelling but not dislocation
strain
force (a part of one’s body or oneself) to make a strenuous or unusually great effort.
