6d Ethics And Code Of Conduct * Flashcards
Describe three reasons why an organisation would introduce a code of conduct for its employees.[6]
(Paul Long question)
The organisation will want to set boundaries for what can and cannot be done using ICT so that both employers and employees know what is allowed or not allowed.
They will want to set out expectations of what behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable so that disciplinary action can be taken if necessary.
They will want to make the employees valued by giving them rights and responsibilities.
Having a code of conduct gives the organisation a good image within the industry so they are seen to be responsible, which may attract more customers and therefore sales.
They will want to set required levels of competence so that good quality work can be expected and employees know what standards they have to adhere to.
They will want to set up rules for confidentiality of data so that sensitive information is not revealed to people outside of the organisation.
A medical centre has a code of conduct relating to the use of the computer system by its staff. Describe two advantages to the centre of having its staff abide by its code of conduct. (4)
One mark for identification of an advantage, one for description:
discipline employees (1) against a publicised set of regulations (1)
sets out rights (1) of what can and cannot be done (1)
can be changed (1) outside of contract (1)
employees to take blame (1) not company (1)
