6.6 electromagnetism Flashcards
define magnetic flux density
the magnetic flux density of a magnetic field is defined as the magnetic force per unit current per unit length acting on a straight current-carrying conductor placed perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field
define magnetic flux
magnetic flux is the product of an area and the component of magnetic flux density perpendicular to that area
define magnetic flux linkage
magnetic flux linkage is the product of the magnetic flux passing through the coil and the number of turns on the coil
state Faraday’s law
Faradays law states that the magnitude of induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage
state Lenz’s law
Lenz’s law states that the induced current is in a direction to produce effects which oppose the change in magnetic flux linkage
define rms current in an alternating circuit
the value of a steady direct current which would dissipate heat at the same average rate in a given resistor
