66-85 Flashcards
Chemical Property
A property or behavior of a substance when it undergoes a chemical change or reaction
Physical property
Any property that is measurable, whose value describes a state of a physical system
Chemical change
Any change that results in the formation of a new chemical substances
Physical change
In which new substances are formed, changes chemical substance, but not its chemical composition
Matter
Physical substance in general. Anything that has mass and takes up space
Specific Heat
The heat required to raise the temperature of the unit mass of a given substance by a given amount.
Atom
Particles of matter, the smallest unit of matter that defines a chemical element
Element
A substance that cannot be separated or broken down into simpler substances by chemical means
Compound
A substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bounds.
Mixture
A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined
Chromatography
The separation of a mixture
Malleable
All to be hammered or pressed permanently out of shape without breaking or cracking
Ductile
Able to be drawn into a thin wire
Solubility
the property of a solid, liquid, or gas to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gas solvent to form a solution
Precipitate
Causes substances to be deposited in solid form from a solution mixing two together to get a solid.
