6.4 The Rate Equation Flashcards
What is the rate equation?
An experimental determined equation that relates the rate of reaction to the concentrations of substances in the reaction mixture.
What is the rate constant?
A constant of proportionality reacting the concentrations in the experimental determined rate expression to the rate of a chemical reaction. The rate constant is only a constant for a particular reaction at a particular temperature.
What is the order of a reaction with respect to a particular reactant?
The power of the reactants concentration in the experimental determined rate equation.
What is the overall order of a reaction?
The sum od the powers of the contraption terms in the experimental determined rate equation.
What is the only way a rate equation can be determined?
From experimental data.
