6.1 Rate Of Reaction and 6.2 Collision Theory Flashcards
What is the rate of reaction?
(change in concentration of a particular reactant or product) / (time)
What are the units of rate?
moldm-3s-1
How do you find the rate of reaction at a particular point on the graph?
The gradient of the tangent at a particular point is equal to the rate of the reaction.
How can you measure the rate of reaction experimentally?
If a gas is given off - collecting gas or monitoring decrease in mass as gas is given off
If something is coloured - can be followed by a colorimeter.
What must happen for a reaction to occur?
Particles must collide with more than a minimum amount of energy and with the correct orientation.
What is a collision called that results in a reaction?
A successful or effective collision - not every collision will result in a reaction.
What is the activation energy?
The minimum amount of energy that colliding particles must possess for a collision to result in a reaction.
